Giant Tangerine

I went to the store the other day and they had these GIANT really lumpy ugly fruits. They were labeled as tangerines. I have no idea if it actually was one. I always thought they were sort of small, but this was the size of a really big grapefruit. Which, on that note, I haven't been able to find down here. I'm sure the climate is right for grapefruits, where are they?

I tried to show how big it was with our ipod smallminibabysize. I don't think it really shows it that well. The top was pretty hilarious too. Very lumpy. Shoulda taken a video.

  1. Names can vary in different parts of the country but that looks like what's called a "poncã" in Sao Paulo. I guess it's like a tangerine since it's citric and easy to peel. Grapefruit can be found (again in Sao Paulo) but it's not very common.

  2. Actually, Wikipedia says they are just that: different names for the same thing:

  3. Hey Andrew, yep, it tasted like at least some sort of citrus when we ate it. Grapefruit we haven't been so lucky with. Lemons also are another citrus that are curiously unavailable. I think there might just not be enough demand for them where we are.

  4. To many Brazilians lemons just a funny (and relatively foreign) type of lime. :)
